Sultana Aschim is from the Pine Barrons of south Jersey but was always drawn to the fast pace and grungy vibe of Philadelphia and New York City; she always had a love for abstraction and design but didn't know which field of art she'd end up in. While attending Arcadia University, she fell in love with working in metal, primarily sterling silver. Sterling silver has an intriguing way of melting under high temperatures. Sultana received her BFA with a concentration in Metals and Jewelry is December 2008 from Arcadia University. After graduation, Sultana Maria Jewelry was formed. Sultana Maria Jewelry is bold and organic. The line captures abstract designs and natural elements such as pods, flowers, and weeds. Sultana wants the person wearing her jewelry to get attention, make a statement, and stand out. Copper, brass, precious stones, found objects, and recycled metals are often incorporated. "Jewelry is a way for me to use my creativity to its fullest and capture everything I've ever been interested in," says Aschim. Along with metals work, Sultana Maria Jewelry also has an affordable eco-friendly charm and chain line made of oxidized chain, found objects, and vintage charms.
